On Wednesday 18 September 2020, the office of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Prefectural and Provincial Councils received at 9:00 a.m. at its headquarters of Rabat, in the Wilaya of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, a delegation representing the National Association of Libyan Municipalities which visited Morocco at the invitation of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa, within the framework of promoting exchanges and cooperation between African local authorities in the field of decentralization.

Thus, the President expressed the willingness of the Association to exchange successful experiences in the field of development and modernization of territorial management and development mechanisms.

For their part, the representatives of the Libyan delegation, which included a group of Libyan Mayors, expressed their interest in Morocco’s experience in the field of decentralization and their appreciation of the progress made by Morocco in this area, suggesting the establishment of a partnership agreement between the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Prefectural and Provincial Councils and the National League of Libyan Municipalities.

This meeting served as a basis for joint action between the two parties to prepare a cooperation and partnership project between the Association and the Libyan National League of Municipalities aimed at supporting bilateral cooperation, as well as to establish contacts with Associations of Local and Regional Authorities in other Maghreb countries in order to develop the same project, hoping to hold a meeting between all parties concerned as soon as possible.
